Classes in Spring I Semester run from January through March.

Academic Still Life Spring I

$235. Ages 12+, 8 weeks. 5-10 students, week of Jan 06 - Feb 29

Open to all students ages 12+ and younger students with qualifying portfolio or instructor permission. The first class in our academic drawing/painting courses, Still Life focuses on the study of light and shadow. Observing and drawing from nature is integral for the development of a young artist’s eye and helps prepare for more complex subjects: figures and faces. Develop your hatching and shading skills, study form and depth, light and shadow. Early classes begin with simple subjects and build up to more complex compositions, all while teaching to break forms down into basic shapes and planes.

Advanced Painting Spring I

$235. Ages 10+, 8 weeks. 5-15 students, week of Jan 06 - Feb 29

Open to all students ages 12+ and younger students with qualifying portfolio or instructor permission. The primary class for students to develop technique, study classical realism, and grow in the fine arts. Advanced Painting focuses on wet media, like watercolors, oils, and acrylics. Students who want to work on competition and portfolio works should consider taking a semi-private lesson.

The Advanced Painting Group class follows a concrete curriculum for the growth of the young artist: still lifes, plein airs, compositional studies. This class emphasizes the principles of design, unity and variety, balance, emphasis, contrast, rhythm, repetition, proportion and scale, and figure and ground relationships. Students also focus on developing depth in technique, and expanding their knowledge of construction and placement. Advanced classes feature more in-depth analysis and study of different media, as well as specific techniques and effects in said media.

Kids Anime Spring I

$235. Ages 5-10, 8 weeks. 5-15 students, week of Jan 06 - Feb 29

Learn something different! Our anime class is for kids who want to try designing and illustrating. Though it still covers fine art theory, the class lets students explore those same concepts in making their own anime characters and scenes. Come and learn to create bright, clean drawings and tell stories with your works. Class will cover media like watercolor and ink/pen. We focus extensively on composition and idea development, emulating the process which many illustrators take when creating printed and animated cartoons.

Kids will work on exercises every class and finish two full-scene illustrations per 8-class semester.

Monday 4:30-6:30pm

Kids I Spring I

$235. Ages 5-8, 8 weeks. 5-10 students, week of Jan 06 - Feb 29

A unique and time-tested program for children who are beginning their studies of fine arts. Fun and simultaneously instructive, with games and puzzles to support development of color theory, composition, and other classical elements of realistic art.

Our studio offers a unique program for children beginning their journey in art. Kids discover complex subjects, like the face of a kitten, through basic shapes. In between drawing and painting, we teach art theory – color, shape – in fun and engaging art games. In these classes, kids work step-by-step on a single subject, like a cat, or place that cat in an environment. Kids choose their own subjects, but explore new and more complex ones over the course of two years. Subjects range from animals to fantasy, ocean, abstract, flowers, and other fun topics. Throughout these classes, kids work with various media.

Kids II Spring I

$235. Ages 7-10, 8 weeks. 5-12 students, week of Jan 06 - Feb 29

A natural progression of topics covered in Kids I, this class develops on color theory, composition, and construction of more complex subjects. In both beginner classes, students work towards the necessary skills for advanced subjects in future classes, such as still lives, portraits, and plein airs.

This class builds on Kids I. Subjects are more complex and kids pay more attention to proportions and shadows, learn perspective and aero-perspective. In these classes, students begin to use their artist eye to see the shapes and colors of their subjects of what they want to draw. Kids II prepares children for the study of light and shadow that lies at the core of our academic method. This class covers various media.
